A Brief Introduction to the Department of Music

　　The Department of Music now has sixty three staff members, including three professors, twelve associate professors, twenty-nine lecturers, among whom eleven has got Master's or Doctor's degrees. The Department of Music has engaged a lot of famous experts in arts, such as Li Dana, Fang Jinlong, Wu Anming and Lin Xiaohui as guest professors. The teachers have made remarkable achievements both in teaching and research work.A dozen of teachers have won the honorable titles of “Guangdong Outstanding Teachers”, “Guangdong Excellent New Teachers” and “Outstanding Head teachers”. The department also has the art education experts under the “Backbone Principal and Teacher Training Project” Guangdong Baisc Education System, editorial members of national college music textbooks, and national trainers for the reform of music teaching.

　　The teachers and students have made great achievements in professional competitions and important performances. The dance work Palpitates has won honorary prize in National Tao Li Cup Dance Competition and gold medal in the First College Art Performance. The dance work Lady of Xi Guan and Faith have won the Silver Award of non-professional group in the First College Art Performance of Guangdong Province. The chorus has won the Silver Award in the National Choral Competition for commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Victory of Anti-Japanese War and World Anti-Fascism in Xiamen , August, 2005 and on the 8th Choral Festival in Shenzhen, December, 2006. Also, they got the First Prize on the First Golden Lotus International Choral Competition in Macao , May, 2007. 　　

　　Cooperating with Hong Kong Orchestral Association, the Department of Music has established the college orchestra, with Mr. Zhang Guomin as the art director. It also has established “ One-Hundred-Girl Orchestra” and engaged the folk music expert Fang Jinlong as the art director.
