Established in 2009, the Department of Dance comprises of two teaching and research offices of “Chinese folk dance” and “dance basics”. It offers one three-year program of Dance Performance and one five-year program of Music Education (Dance), with six teaching classes of over one hundred students on campus.

　　The department features a teaching faculty of twelve teachers with privileged professional skills. With two associate professors, the staff graduated from famous universities such as Chinese National Academy of Arts and Beijing Dance Academy.

　　The teachers of the department feature rigorous academic attitude and active thinking with fruitful accomplishments in both teaching and research. Several academic dissertations have been published in the nationally renowned publications such as “Dance”, “Education Guide” and so on. Moreover, several dance works have been awarded prizes. For example, the dance Palpitation has won the gold medal in the sixth national “Lotus Cup” College Dance Contest, which was the first of its kind won by Guangdong professional institutions of arts. “Going for your dream” has been awarded the first prize in the second “national college arts exhibition shows”. The dance “classmates” has won the first prize in “Guangdong provincial college dance contest”. The dance “Days of passion” has won the gold medal in “Korea Seoul Cup youth dance contest”. The dance work Lady of Xi Guan and Faith have won the top prize of dance in “Singapore international youth Orchid Cup”. The dance “Young heart” has been granted the gold award in “Singapore international youth Orchid Cup” dance contest. The dance work Lady of Xi Guan and Faith have won the Silver Award in the First “Lingnan dance contest” of Guangdong Province.

　　In terms of social practice, the students of the department have taken part in several prestigious dance contests and performances, which have been highly appreciated by the people from all sectors of the society. For instance, the students have participated in the opening ceremonies of “8th Ethnic Minority Traditional Sports Meeting” and “ the eighth University Games”, “Long live the youth-- Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao Youth Singing Contest for commemorating the thirtieth anniversary of the reform and opening-up”, “A historical new stage--Guangdong provincial variety show commemorating the 85th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party”, Guangdong provincial final of “2008 Miss Chinese World Contest” and “Song of youth---the large-scale variety show for the youth from all sectors of the society implementing “Eight Dos and Don’ts ”.

　　In terms of curriculum, the department offers dance basic skills, folk dance, body rhyme, blanket skills, dance composition, modern dance, dance pedagogy, drama rehearsals, dance Studies, dance history, and Masterpiece appreciation. It also focuses on developing and improving the overall theoretical and professional skills of the students by learning through a scientific system to develop the students morally, intellectually and physically. Graduates have the full competence of working as fundamental education teachers in music and dance or dance teachers, performance instructors, program directors or researchers in all kinds enterprises and institutions such as the Song and Dance Ensembles, Art troupe, public art center, TV station and the like.

　　In the era of rapid cultural development, the Department of Dance is committed to the undertakings of dance, culture and social progress and development. It keeps to the good traditions of rigorous academic attitude, standardized management and active practice, continuously expanding the specialty development, actively exploring the new mode of talent cultivation, endeavoring to increase the accomplishments in teaching and research and promoting the sustained development in teaching and management. Confronted with the new opportunities and challenges, the whole faculty and students will pull together for a brilliant future.
