Since the establishment of the Department of Information Technology in 2002, it has actively implemented the modern concept of vocational and technical education of “school-industry partnership” and steadily advanced in the innovative talent-cultivation mode of “study-work interaction”. In the meantime, we vigorously implement the “work-process-oriented” project-based education reform and focus on cultivating the professional competence and qualities of students with full commitment to fostering senior multifunctional application talents for the information technology and digital era.

　　【Geopolitical Environment】

　　Located in Wushan campus of Guangdong Teachers College of Foreign Language and Arts in the university area (the original Wushan campus of Guangdong University of Technology), it is adjacent to the core business district of Guangzhou Teem Plaza, Tianhe Sports Center and Pacific Computer Mall. Providing a nice learning environment, the department is close to South China University of Technology, South China Agricultural University, South China Normal University, Jinan University and Guangdong Polytechnic Normal University.

　　【Programs】

　　Currently the department offers four programs, namely the Modern Education Technology Program, the PC Techniques program (e-government), the PC Techniques of Network Program, and the PC Techniques of Multimedia Program, which have formed the discipline program group with information technology application as the core. Among them, the Modern Education Technology Program has been identified as the “Model Program” of Guangdong Province and the PC Techniques of Multimedia Program has been identified as the “Model Program” of our college.

　　【Teachers】

　　The faculty number in the department is 16, most of whom have the “Double-Qualification” certificates. With 1 professor, 4 associate professors, 20 lecturers, 2 doctor’s degree holder (4 PHD candidates) and 14 master’s degree holders, the department owns a competent teaching staff. There are 10 part-time teachers from our college and 18 from enterprises.

　　Our department provides advanced teaching facilities with training bases sponsored by the central government. Now it has set up all kinds of practice laboratories, such as the digital circuit laboratory, computer assembly laboratory, network laboratory, video recording laboratory, multimedia laboratory, comprehensive educational technology laboratory, micro-teaching classroom and the like. In addition, the department has also adopted the “Onsite School-industry Partnership” approach. We have worked together with enterprises to set up 4 computer application training bases and 5 modern technology training centers, which can meet the needs of teachers and students in practical training.

　　【Program development】

　　The program development of the department features remarkable achievements with one “Model Program” of Guangdong Province (Modern Education Technology), one “Model Program” of our college (the PC Techniques of Multimedia) and one key program of our college. The department has one Elite Course on the provincial level, five Elite Courses on the college level and two key courses. Students feature a solid foundation of vocational skills and have been awarded in several professional competence contests on the provincial scale.

　　The department emphasizes the cultivation of the students’ practical ability in actual work and strengthens the professional competence with multiple occupational certificates. The graduates feature high adaptability and wide employment prospects. The employment rate for the past three years has reached 100%.
